Could there be a better-named pub to kick off the City Life section on drinking? HITC thinks not, and hopes that you, banker, agree.
The Banker has it all (not unlike several bankers we know).
It's location under the Cannon Street Railway Bridge is one of the nicest features because of the character it brings. The mezzanine level under the arches is like a secret enclave in which to sit and watch the river go by. It also holds a few pool tables should you need some activity.
Outside are a few picnic tables and a nicely decorated terrace with tables and chairs overlooking the river. Not that you need it this summer, but it's nice to know it's there, and on a rare pleasant evening, there's not much that's better.
The Fuller's beer is well-kept and reasonably priced, and they've regularly got cask ales available.
But one of their most unique features is service. All day long you can order - and get - drinks at your table (but make no mistake, this is a pub). During lunchtime, food must be ordered at the bar, but in the evening, it can also be ordered from the table.
Not surprisingly, this is a local for quite a few banks - IXIS, RBC and Standard Bank included. And it's conveniently located for a drink after your workout at Cannon's Fitness Club.
Talk about having it all!
