Salsa is the cornerstone of any Mexican feast, and when scooped on corn chips, makes the perfect snack. With a new jar in town, both are now as good as that top shelf margarita in your hand.
Previously, it was Discovery brand if you were lucky, and Doritos brand if you weren’t. Now, I’d only choose those for scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa. For everything else, I’m a Frontera convert.
I had never heard of Frontera before dinner at a friend’s house. The salsa, which comes from Chicago, where celebrity chef/author/TV presenter Rick Bayless has three restaurants, reminded me of my favourite salsa from Alero in Washington, DC and Rio Grande Café in Arlington, Virginia. More pureed than chunky, roasted and smoky, with garlic and onions - I ate way more than my fair share.
I couldn’t find it on Ocado or at my local Waitrose (St Katherine Docks), so she bought two jars for me at her Waitrose (Holloway Road). This past weekend, I found it at the Waitrose Mothership (Canary Wharf) and bought five jars. It’s a full pound more expensive than the others on offer, but is more than twice as good.
So look no further for your next salsa fix.
Except for a Waitrose that stocks it.
Join me in my crusade to get Frontera Medium Salsa on Ocado, and in every Waitrose in town. Email ocado@ocado.com or customer_service@waitrose.co.uk.
N.B. This is not a paid advertisement, although I wouldn't turn away a case of salsa as a thank you, Mr. Bayless!

Foreign-born Madame B thinks she's a City girl, but mostly just walks our streets checking things out and searching for the best wi-fi hotspots offered by The Cloud. You can spot her typing furiously on her shiny white MacBook, wearing dark sunglasses and drinking a glass of champagne. She's one half of the Shopaholics, which might explain things...
