A chance table on a Friday evening at Moro led to a meeting with a Black Face lamb. And it was good (despite the extra information).
One Friday evening (after the Designer Warehouse Sale in King's Cross), we were looking for a place for dinner. As King's Cross only offers a roller disco, we walked toward Clerkenwell, and ended up in Exmouth Market. Although people were spilling onto the sidewalk, we decided to try Moro. Nothing to lose! And, as it turned out, everything to gain.

We were lucky enough to get the last, unreserved table, under a skylight, right next to the bathroom door. (Fortunately the bathroom is charming and filled with lovely green tiles, so it wasn't a dire situation.) The place was packed with a variety of people who in their own, unique ways were all cool (we were cool having just bagged some bargains), clearly loving the food, drink and self-satisfied vibe of relaxed quality.

All the drinks are Spanish, so we had beer and cava, and two dishes between three of us to start. The new season's English peas with jamon and mint were excellent - the ramekin they were cooked and served in was filled with lovely peas of perfect consistency (and other good things for dipping bread). The charcoal grilled onions and broad beans with salbixada were a bit disappointing, mostly because there weren't enough onions. They had top billing, but the broad beans took up most of the plate.

Our mains were pretty great. Two of us had the slow roasted milk fed Black Face lamb with fino, new season garlic and mashed potatoes, and our biggest complaint was the fact the presence of "Black Face" on the menu. No one wants to picture the animal they're about to eat! But we did, and it was good. Our friend had the Wood roasted chicken with garlic and saffron vinegar and slow-cooked green beans. And damn did those green beans pack a punch. Not for anyone with a distaste of vinegar, but heaven for anyone who likes their flavours strong.

We liked the fact service wasn't included (which means the tip you leave in cash goes straight to your waiter), and with a few drinks, our bill came to about £40/person. Not bad at all for such good quality food, super friendly service and a darling green and blue tiled bathroom.
