It's taken a little while for the cupcake thing to arrive in London. But it has (thank God), and now you can send them, find them, and above all, eat them.
What's not to love about a cupcake? It's an individually-sized cake that's pretty and tasty. And because they come in so many flavours, everyone can get their favourite (no wasted calories - also a good thing).

So what's the difference between a cupcake and a fairy cake? Not much, only cupcakes suggest a larger American-style version of any flavour, and less of smaller, denser cake with frosting. Cupcakes are American, fairy cakes are British.

One of the best places to pick one up for the road is the Hummingbird Bakery in Notting Hill (natch). While it's not quite Magnolia Bakery in New York's West Village (where people queue outside, wanting their own piece of Sex & the City), it's a bit of a mecca. They've now opened in South Kensington, so their recipe is clearly working.

But if that's not convenient (and it's too-often not), Lola's Kitchen delivers. They've got a seriously great selection of flavours (including Carrot, Banana, Lemon and Coffee, along with the more standard Chocolate, Vanilla and Red Velvet). You can get a mixed box and they can custom decorate them with your bank's logo.

And then you can expense them!
