Miyako is the kind of restaurant you walk by a thousand times and never notice, until someone suggests you meet there. Corner of Liverpool Street and Bishopsgate. Are you able to place it?
Part of Andaz (formerly the Great Eastern Hotel), Miyako is a regular eat in (and take away) spot for two friends who work in the area, so when it came time to seeing them for a meal - and the location being good for all of us - it was the easy suggestion.
We were met by the traditional greetings from the sushi chefs (who take up half of the space allocated for the entire restaurant), then led to the other side of a wall and seated in a tiny, stylish space, which my husband commented was "not unlike a bento box". And he was right, seating maybe 24 people in low chairs, the space had a minimalist feel with a row of images on one wall making up the only real decorations in the room.
The menu is 75% sushi, which is really very good. Like Tex-Mex, good sushi can be hard to find in London, so all good sushi spots must be remembered. Our regular patron friend says the sashimi is some of the best she's had in London, and upon tasting, we'd have to agree it was good.
We all started with standard miso soup, which was just as we expected, and after our sushi, had beef teriyaki all around. While the cooked portion of the menu is small, it's complete, and very tasty. We shared green tea ice cream on two large sesame biscuits - to die for.
The friendly service was very good, and they dealt with the one complaint we had very adequately.
With a few Kirins and a few glasses of wine, our bill came to about £30/person.
So next time you need a sushi infusion - or a better to-go than Yo! can give you - don't forget: the corner of Liverpool Street and Bishopsgate.

You can spot her typing furiously on her shiny white MacBook, wearing dark sunglasses and drinking a glass of champagne. She's one half of the Shopaholics, which might explain things...
