- A Cupcake for All Seasons (27/06/2007)
It's easy to start a week at the Four Seasons Punta Mita with good intentions. Yoga on The Rock at 8:30 a.m., aerobics in the main pool at 11:30. Salsa-making class on Thursday at 5 p.m.
But as the hours roll by and the cool towels (and chilli pineapple, and ice cream, and Mexican iced tea) keep coming, getting up from your heavenly spot can be a challenge.
And so you don't. Instead you just enjoy being spoiled.
My husband and I spent eight nights at the resort in July, and it was perfect. We became true Four Seasons converts after just a few days (and after reading an article about the founder of the company who doesn't believe in excess for the sake of it, but fully believes in smart luxury).
Our room was large and spacious enough for us to live happily for those days, which included a meal in, an afternoon in, several pre-dinner drinks and lots of in-between hours. The stylish Mexican furnishings reminded us where we were, as did the never-ending supply of bottled water.
Our days were spent between three pools and two beaches, our favourites being the adult pool (where you could rent cabanas by the day, which came with flat screen TVs, a private pool and an under-fan daybed) and a quiet beach where we spent our last glorious day (and wished we had gone earlier in the week).
The variety of food was also extensive (and delicious), with a beach grill serving fish and meat, a casual Mexican restaurant (which had a great Mexican feast one night), and the formal Aramara, where we had two incredible meals. You could also get sushi and tapas at the adult pool, and a variety of cuisine almost anywhere through room service.
For a little variety, we had two rounds of golf on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course (where when the tides are right you can play onto an island green), and two Punta Mita massages (which involve tequila on the back and bottoms of feet).
We also tried to spy our fellow guest, Senor Cube (that's Ice Cube to you and me), but as the resort even at capacity seemed only half-full, had no such luck.
The Four Seasons is located 45 minutes away from Puerto Vallarta on the development of Punta Mita, and it's worth getting picked up by the hotel since on this trip, you won't want to go anywhere else.
