Still struggling with the January Blues? Take a note from the Soul Sister and book a holiday in the sun. With direct flights to every Sunday, you can't go wrong with Turks and Caicos - especially if your bonus wasn't a total disappointment.
The Turks and Caicos Islands (a British Overseas Territory) are part of the British West Indies, with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Atlantic on the other. The location - east of Cuba and north of the Dominican Republic - is far enough south to pretty much guarantee good weather at this time of year.

The island is also developed enough to offer a extensive selection of groceries and alcohol at Graceway IGA, along with anything else you may need during a week's holiday (like Trivial Pursuit, a baby thermometer, or after-sun spray). This is especially important as Turks and Caicos is an island that loves 'suite' living, and many resort accommodations include a small kitchen.

My friends and I rented a nine-bedroom villa called Emerald Shores, and although we wouldn't return to that house (which wasn't up to the standards we were expecting), we'd happily return to the island.

Taylor Bay Beach was our local strip of sand, and from there, we saw a number of great villas, which can be rented through Ocean Point Villas.

Friends on the trip had stayed at The Regent Palms and absolutely loved it, and another set had been to Parrot Cay twice and couldn't wait to get back. We read about Amanyara whilst there, and have already started saving our coins. After a trip to an excellent local spa called Spa Sanay (649-946-8212), we walked around Grace Bay Club on the busy Grace Bay Beach, where Cindy Crawford was flying kites on the beach.

A rental car is a must, and Hertz and Avis are on the island. Be careful before getting in a taxi though - they like to charge $20/person for a 15 minute ride, but will negotiate.

There's no shortage of snorkling and diving and even snuba diving on the island, and if you get really bored, a surprisingly large cinema.

So heed the advice of the Soul Sister, and turn those blues into the colour of the islands.
