One of the best kinds of holidays is a week in a fabulous house surrounded by great friends, great food and great wine. With that in mind, we offer a few options for your summer villa rental.
Corlac House (Southwest France)
Corlac House is a gorgeously-restored 13th century house and barn located in Southwest France. The beautiful grounds encourage outdoor living with an 18m pool, BBQ, boules court and outdoor eating area.
The house accommodates 14 in six en-suite bedrooms - five doubles (one of which can be made into a twin room) and one room with two sets of bunk beds. The property is made up of a main house and a barn, each which has its own kitchen, dining room and living room. Very importantly, the main house kitchen has two refrigerators and two dishwashers - key for the success of a large party.
Corlac is an hour's drive from Limoges (with flights from Stanstead), and two hours from Bordeaux and Toulouse. But our preferred method of transport is on the autotrain from Calais to Brive. Load your car, have a romantic night in a sleeper car, and wake up in Brive the next morning.
Montalegre Castle (Southwest France)
If your group is huge, check out Montalegre Castle, which has 10 rooms between the castle and the cottage. We're going in August, so can't give a first person account yet, but between the pool area and the vaulted dining room, have high hopes for our time away!
The closest airports to the castle are Beziers (1:30) or Montpellier (1:45).
Sanctuary Villas & Apartments (Various Locations)
Sanctuary has an excellent selection of luxury villas in France and Italy (as well as a few in Greece and Spain, and one in Croatia), and is a good place to start a search. Many of the villas are truly majestic, and our favourites include:
Bruern Holiday Cottages (The Cotswolds)
If you want to stay on our island, then consider these fabulous Cotswolds cottages. While they don't have private swimming pools and acres surrounding them, they're beautifully appointed, and range in size, accommodating from two to 10.
Think of it as a mini, luxury Centre Parc, with a spa, gym, heated pool and restaurant on-site, and, of course, babysitters on hand to let you get away too.
