As the book cover states: "A revolution is a foot in the IT industry; there is no denying the fact. IT professionals that are forward-thinking are embracing this revolution; they realise that business knowledge is the lifeblood of a successful and fulfilling career in IT."
This book is the second in the Bizle Professional Series of books we have reviewed, the first being Business Knowledge For IT In Investment Banking. The format hasn't changed (and why should it?) and it describes itself as the "handbook for the discerning IT professional that provides easy-to-follow guidelines on the business knowledge needed to forge a career in the exciting world of investment management".
The tagline of a popular brand of wood stain springs to mind ('it does exactly what it says on the tin'). Latest innovations in business and IT in the IM industry discussed in the book include 130/30 strategies, Liability Driven Investment, Service Oriented Architecture, Islamic Asset Management, Hedge Fund Cloning and much more. Contributors to the book include: ETF Securities, Charles River Development, DST International, Positiveview, Latent Zero, Statpro, Investment Horizon, BearingsPoint, Morse, and Linedata.
It explains the business of investment management clearly and thoroughly; in fact, you couldn't ask for more on the subject. Of particular note is the the case study on Service-Orientated Architecture (SOA) and the explanation of derivatives trading in Investment Management.
In summary, this book is a superb primer for IT professionals working in, or aspiring to be working in, investment management. It's a well written handbook detailing the convergence of IT and business in an increasingly important sector of the financial services industry. As such it comes highly recommended.
Business Knowledge For IT In Investment Banking is published by Essvale Corporation Limited and is part of their Bizle Professional Series.
