HITCitizen Martin Gallagher made his way to Wednesday's UK premiere to deliver us the goods. "And what of the film," we ask. "Does it, too, deliver?" Absolutely, he replies.
Peter Greengrass returns to direct the third film of this series, which sees Matt Damon spectacularly reprising his role as amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne, an ex-CIA operative who needs to hunt down his past to find his future.

Greengrass cleverly uses his trademark hand-held camera technique to create what can only be described as the stunning bastard child of 'Indie Film' meets 'The Hollywood Franchise'.

That said if I have any criticism of this film, it's the constant close-ups and 'nervous' camera movement, especially when Bourne is in shot, which can be distracting if you're seated near the front of the theatre.

This film is in essence one long chase scene with a pace quicker than a disgraced celebrity into the Priory. And in his quest to find his identity, Bourne uncovers another question: What is Blackbriar?

To answer this question he races between Moscow, Paris, Madrid, London and Tangier, and finally ends up in New York City. He's assisted along the way by CIA Agent Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles) and latterly by CIA Covert Operations team leader Pamela Landy (played again by the gorgeous Joan Allen).

Ultimatum also introduces a new nemesis for Bourne in the guise of Noah Vosen (David Strathairn), a CIA boss who uses killing as a ready solution to all employee disputes.

Admittedly this film does require the suspension of belief for certain parts of the story. For example, anyone who has waited at US passport control recently would question quite how easily Bourne enters the USA. But the fact that we believe he can do it is an example of why I love Matt Damon's interpretation of Robert Ludlum's (author of The Bourne Trilogy) character.

To me Bourne is just a man. Unlike James Bond, he relies only on himself and his ingenuity and skills, as opposed to an array of 'Product Placement' gadgets. He can speak many languages, knows kick ass moves and uses driving manoeuvres that would never feature in the Highway Code.

If you have not seen The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, watch them before this so you can fully understand the tying up of lose ends. And if you have, then don't wait for the DVD. Get to the big screen to fully appreciate what is surely the summer action blockbuster.

The Bourne Ultimatum is in theatres now.

Here Is The Writer : Martin Gallagher

Martin Gallagher Martin Gallagher has never played for West Ham or England, nor had a number one hit single, but he has worked in the City for many years (for what that's worth). A life-long Londoner, he made the migration from east to west a few years back and is still trying to get used to the absence of fried chicken takeaways and the over abdundance of coffee shops. Martin is married, has two daughters, and is also interested in travelling, football and writing. He hopes to publish his first novel 'sometime in the future'.
