When its a film I really want to see, I head to the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road in the heart of uber trendy W11, which offers quality mainstream films alongside 'art house' offerings in stylish and luxurious comfort.
Part of Nick Jones' Soho House group, The Electric underwent extensive renovation in the late 1990s, and has just 98 seats, 56 of which come with footstools. And these aren't the ordinary fold-down seats of your local multiplex, but sumptuous leather armchairs, each with its own built in wine cooler and side table for drinks from the bar, which stays open until five minutes before the screening. And for that extra special date, there are a couple of two seater sofas, discreetly tucked away at the rear of the auditorium.
Admittedly, this sort of exclusivity comes at a price (actually £14.50 for seat with footstool), but to me it's worth an extra £5 for an increase in comfort and a decrease in the background chatter that's become the norm in cinemas. Monday afternoons is the exception, when the cinema is given over exclusively to parents and carers to enjoy full-length features with babies on their laps.
And before or after the show, check out the celebs' favourite eatery next door, the Electric Brasserie, which serves great food and drink with the opportunity for some the best people watching in London.

Martin Gallagher has never played for West Ham or England, nor had a number one hit single, but he has worked in the City for many years (for what that's worth). A life-long Londoner, he made the migration from east to west a few years back and is still trying to get used to the absence of fried chicken takeaways and the over abdundance of coffee shops. Martin is married, has two daughters, and is also interested in travelling, football and writing. He hopes to publish his first novel 'sometime in the future'.
