There's not much that's more fun that Taste of London, especially for someone who would rather eat 10 small things than one main course, and wash it all down with a bottle of champagne.
And that is, without a doubt, me. This year's Taste was the second year my friends and I went, and this year was even more fun that last year's. (Read: there was more free stuff - although last year, one friend exited with two cases of Seeds of Change pasta sauce. Not too bad. This year I got darling pink flip-flops from a really bad winemaker.)

We arrived with the rest of the crowd at 5:30 on Saturday, and kudos to the organisers - not even one delay despite the masses. Our first stop was at the Wines of Spain stand, where our 13-strong group started with a few bottles of cava. Then the first group broke off and started eating. Here's what we had:
  • Tom's Kitchen - Goujons of sole with chips and tartare sauce (a.k.a. really good fish & chips)
  • Tom Aikens - Beef shin braised in guinness with potato and parsnip puree (so good we had it last year and this year)
  • Cocoon - Shezuan tiger prawns with blackened beans (surprisingly spicy and very tasty)
  • Cafe Spice - Galinha (chicken) Xacutti, probably one of the world's most complicated and intricate curries made with over 21 ingredients, served on a bed of garlic pulao (so good I had it twice)
  • The Cinnamon Club - Tandoori guinea fowl with peanuts and mango (wonderful) and Spice-crusted tilapia with yoghurt rice (also wonderful)
  • Rhodes Twenty-Four - Lemon tart (beyond delicious)
We really liked the Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc (but we knew that already), Codorniu Cava and Ayala Champagne. And we loved the chunks of cheese from pretty much everyone giving them away, as well as the Gu Puds. We did not like the wine from Mateus or Couture by Stormhoek.

We reconvened after the down-pour (which sent everyone into happy camaraderie), and I'm pretty sure some people in our group never ate. Totally their loss - and not only because of the hangover that came the next day!
