In our favourite cities (London and New York, obv), the kool kats strut in the East. And with EAST, a festival celebrating the East side of our town, the best of the coolest is on show through the weekend.
Here's where you'll find us:
Shopping
There's no end to the cool markets around Spitalfields (including Sunday Upmarket at the Old Truman Brewery), but this weekend, we'll be doing some time at Oscar Milo (clothing? accessories? furniture? maybe one of each!) and Chica, for the best party frocks in town.
Food
Lunch: Taste East on Friday & Saturday (12-5) will feature 40 stalls and a variety of other cool things
Dinner: Ubon by Nobu is offering a £45 five-course menu to celebrate EAST - just mention it when booking
Performance
Tough Time, Nice Time (18+ only, which was all we needed to hear) at The Pit (Barbican)
Various performances
A secret, a spa in Bangkok and two naked Germans...
Martin, an ex-rent boy drug-dealing lawyer, offers to share his tales of misfortune with Stefan, a jaded hack writer on a junket. Together they engage in an intricate exchange of outrageous stories, weaving through movies, sex, celebrity and genocide. With its razor sharp dialogue and lightning pace, Tough time, nice time is challenging, vividly imaginative and utterly absorbing.
Art
John Squire at Signal Gallery
John Squire (guitarist of The Stone Roses) was always an artist as well as a musician, although now he paints full-time. And because we still love The Stone Roses (and also dug his later band, The Seahorses), we won't be missing this.
Film
Birds Eye View Film Festival Presents - Beyond The Valley of The Dolls
Whitechapel Gallery
Saturday, 8 March, 7 p.m.
Welcome to a world of B movie adventure where queens of the amazon, atomic war brides and swamp women rule. Hosted by women on the edge and alternative reality set specialists the Laundrettas and DIY collective Girlcore, Birds Eye View presents a stunning all girl line up of live performances (Peggy Sue and the Pirates, Florence and the Machine, and Plaster of Paris), DJ sets (Broken Hearts, Isa GT live and DJ Pearl) and visuals (VJ bopa, Jewelspit and Your mum).
