Relax, we're not writing an article about Stuff White People Like. We're writing about a blog that's got America talking (and commenting).
The blog started as a satire by a copywriter who found himself falling into stereotypes he felt were ridiculously white.
Dinner parties.
Oscar parties.
Sushi.
Microbrews.
Whole Foods and grocery co-ops.
Having black friends.
Having gay friends.
He confesses to liking almost everything on the list (including The Wire, which started off the whole thing. "I don't trust anyone who doesn't watch The Wire," his friend said).
But there's no question, it's provocative, stereotypical and racist in a way that makes us, well, a bit uncomfortable, even if it is meant in good, clean fun.
This probably accounts for much of its success. With 23 million hits in four months (the site launched on the 18th of January), Stuff White People Like has the media in a frenzy. The founder has a book deal, and new posts receive more than 1,000 reader comments each.
The question - and concern - we have is: do all the people in America reading it get the joke?
