This weekend sees the release of the new Star Trek film, which as one friend said, was "Hot. Hot. H-O-T." As such, the perfect theme for our Weekend Guide.
See the Film

So far Star Trek is rocking an 84 out of 100 for critics reviews on Metacritic, and an 8.4 out of 10 for user reviews. That's more than seriously good. And almost double the score of last week's Wolverine. Not bad for the 11th instalment in the long-running franchise. Talk about living long and prospering.

Don't Sleep

One German publication called Star Trek a pyjama party in space. But to this event, you don't really want to wear Star Trek-inspired PJs. It's an 8pm-3am pyjama party in a pile outside of London, with a pillow fighting ring, cinema, tarot card reader, food and a bar that never closes. How fun. And how very tonight, so you'd better spend your lunch break finding something to wear.

Eat Responsibly

It's only logical, as any Vulcan would tell you. In this day and age, you need to be an educated consumer and the Real Food Festival, this weekend at Earl's Court, will show you how. As they say, "It's a celebration of everything from the farm to your plate."

Cycle for Charity

OK, so the young Kirk rides a motorbike. Whatever. On Sunday, the 14th of June, the choice is yours: 25 miles through the countryside (Sheer Heaven) or 50 miles up 5K feet (Shere Hell). The routes will end up at the same place - a big, old pub BBQ. Registration is £25 and there's no fundraising minimum - and what you do bring in will benefit Sparks, the Childrens Medical Research Charity.

PSA

We don't normally run Public Service Addresses, but in case you weren't aware:

Malignant mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the lung caused by exposure to asbestos. Due to the long latency period of this disease, people who worked in environments containing asbestos during 1940-1970 are now being diagnosed with mesothelioma. For more information about asbestos exposure and mesothelioma, please visit Mesothelioma Web.
