This weekend, we celebrate eating. In-house, out-of-house, outdoors. And a cocktail fit to shake.
Eat In
It's easy to get in a rut and fall back on the two or three delivery places you know. And it's never fun to take a gamble with a new place and not have it work out so well (interpret at your own risk). HungryHouse.co.uk aims to fix that by offering a list of places that deliver to your postcode along with menus and online ordering capabilities. But best of all, they include user reviews, which do appear to be authentic.
Eat Out
The Palm is open. London finally has a proper American steakhouse with filet mignon, creamed spinach and desserts to die for. Now, exactly how do we get our face on that wall?
Eat Outside
Picnic season has arrived. In the past we've talked about things you MUST have on the grass, as well as alternative places to picnic. But how about a super easy way to do it right? Easy Picnic (not related to Easy Jet - this is more like BA's Club World) will meet you at a park entrance with a fully ready-to-go picnic in hand (waste bag and everything). There are three choices - Bronze (£25), Silver (£40), and Gold (£60) - and yes, all of them come with wine. Twenty-four hours notice required, people, so you might want to book now, considering the forecast for the weekend.
Eat Asparagus
Weren't quite expecting that now, were you. Anyway, May is the month for white asparagus in Germany, and it's almost hilarious - every restaurant has a White Asparagus Menu. You can find it in London at the German Deli, but that means you have to cook it yourself. If you'd rather not, you can eat it at the Bavarian Beerhouse (along with ham or Schnitzel or, if you're like us, sausage, sauerkraut and potatoes, since we want it all). Both places will have it through the weekend, but not much after that.
Wash It Down
After all of this food, you're going to need a drink. Our good friend is a cocktail goddess in New York City, and has sent us a few delectable recipes for inclusion in our Weekend Guides. To kick it off, we offer you Bubbles & Raspberries.
- 5 Raspberries
- 2 parts Gin (Plymouth)
- 1 part freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 part Simple Syrup *
Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake
Strain into an up/cocktail glass
Top with 4 parts Brut Champagne
* Measure equal parts of superfine sugar to hot water and heat on stove until clear. Chill before using.
Cheers!
