Dammit! Locked out (again). Who ya gonna call? Good question.
Have you alienated your neighbours by passing out in the elevator one too many times? Does the woman across the hall ignore you because you fall asleep to Guns 'n Roses every night? Or is your closest neighbour so very far away you can't be bothered?

Whatever your circumstance, you will lock yourself out at least once every 2.5 years (this is not a scientific finding), and find yourself totally screwed (unless you have a kindly porter whose job it is to look after you).

SpareKeys.com was started about 18 months ago by a guy whose flatmate kept locking himself out. (The flatmate was a chef, and would run out for ingredients without his keys. Repeatedly.) From this, our hero conceived of the idea, and now, his business, deliver keys anywhere, 24/7 (for a fee, of course).

Turns out responsible people use this service too: You can use SpareKeys.com for deliveries, builders, plumbers or nannies.

And in case you're thinking about security, it's tight. They keep your keys, but not your address. When you sign up you answer several security questions, and when you call for your keys, you answer them again and get a unique password. Then you agree on a location that isn't your home (ok, but could be outside on the street), give the password to the delivery person and unlock your door!

HITC readers who sign up online using code 26NYCP before 15th September will get a 50% discount on their year's membership (£19.50 instead of £39).
