- City Staff Embark On Ultimate Charity Triathlon Race (31/07/2007)
The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race is this Saturday, and the bad news is that light showers are forecasted and it's going to be cold. With less-than-optimal conditions, is it worth the effort? Or are there replacement activities delivering more bang for your buck?
We think so, although the record must show that we're all for drinking champagne on sun-drenched riverbanks...
Boats
Since it's hardly the weekend to be out on a boat, pay a visit to the new Ping Pong location at St. Katherine Docks. At least you'll overlook a few beauties, a few beaters and a few that should be put out to sea.
Water
Give floatation therapy a try, which apparently works wonders on alleviating stress. There are places near London Bridge, Clapham and in Notting Hill, fitting all styles and budgets.
Champagne
Visit Europe's longest Champagne Bar at St. Pancras Station (90 metres) and fantasize about heading off for a romantic weekend in Paris. Or hell, just go on a romantic weekend to Paris, and start the trip here.
Sun
Let's face it. We're not seeing much of this one this weekend. If it's too much to bear, bare all for a spray-tan consultant (there is actually a website for finding a global mobile spray-tan provider) who will come to your house and help you fake it 'til you can make it. Or take the site's advice and plan a Tanning Party!
Blue & White
We were going to suggest joining Friends of Blue, a club dedicated to studying blue & white pottery from the 18th century, but we think providing the recipe for a China Blue cocktail may be of more interest. Ready?
Pour over ice:
4 oz of grapefruit juice
3/4 oz lychee liqueur
1 1/4 oz Blue Curacao liqueur over ice.
Stir, garnish with a cherry if desired, and drink.
