If you love slipping into your office wear but feel your favourite skirt suit lacks character, use this season’s bold accessories to inject some personality into the mix.
Thank goodness for those little luxe touches, which will transform a sharp suit or even weekend wear, seen everywhere on the Autumn/Winter catwalks. Boring black dress? Not a problem if you’re carrying a gorgeous tote or rocking a bejeweled cuff.
If you loathe (but reluctantly agree to) sitting at the bottom of a huge waiting list for the latest Bag of the Season, you’ll be pleased to know that this season, there’s a veritable feast of delicious arm candy for you (and every other bag lover) to choose from.
Magpies will flock towards Chloe’s super shiny, patent Cyndi tote, which will add a generous helping of glamour to the simplest of outfits.
Keep your eyes peeled for chain handles (think the Givenchy Sacca and of course the Chanel classic flap) and eye popping colours, such as Mulberry’s glossy Maggie in zingy grape or pea green, or kill two birds with one stone with Celine’s traffic light red Watch Me Work tote complete with silver chain detailing.
When a dainty bracelet pales into comparison against a Roland Mouret power dress or sharp Chanel skirt suit, take inspiration from the houses of Lanvin and Marni, and opt for statement jewellery. Toughen up with a cuff from Tom Binns, Miu Miu, or Erickson Beamon, or throw on Burberry Prorsum’s royal blue Albury necklace for an instant wardrobe update.
Classic heritage is a big look for Autumn/Winter - the perfect excuse to indulge in luxe accessories that will stay in your wardrobe for years. Think old Hollywood glamour and opt for fur tippets, long-length gloves in leather and suede, and silk scarves from Missoni and Hermes. At D&G, scarves were tied around the hair a la Audrey Hepburn. (Avoid looking like Dot Cotton, simply secure about the neck in a chic knot.)
Finally, don’t forget to accessorise your pins - lace tights nod to the luxe goth trend without scaring your colleagues. Just remember to keep hem lines to the knee - only a flash of lace is needed.
