The market may be recovering, but that doesn't mean we are. Bankers everywhere are concerned about job security and their upcoming bonuses. How to survive? The Soul Sister advises.
It is always useful when one is concerned to be honest about it - to admit to oneself and the people who matter that it is scary to have to live in leaner times. And let's remember this too: 'city lean' is still very comfy by general standards, but you have grown used to that comfort level, so are quite rightly concerned about how you will cope.
The City has been here before, and if you weren't there last time round, ask your older collegues how it went. You will find that most of them adjusted quite easily. They may even tell you that is was fun looking forward to a bit of a spending spree.
This could also become a time of self-discovery for you, so be open to that. It's easy to take things for granted, so take this as an opportunity to appreciate what you have in the good times, and to learn that the less good times have a lot to offer too. It could also be interesting to see the way your friendships evolve in this time. You may find a bit of a change, which could be very useful.
You are a clever person by definition, working in the City, resourceful and creative, so turn on the magic and see how you can transform this period into something worthwhile for yourself.
And take heart. A little less money will be evened out by greater knowledge about yourself and the world you live in. Maybe not such a bad thing after all.
