It's hard not to feel some anxiety as you wait for your folder. This article from HITC News will help you diagnose it, and reading on will help you fix it.
Dear Soul Sister
I am normally a pretty confident guy, and have little patience for the 'shy, retiring' types. But in the last two months I've been acting just like them! Can't do presentations without getting tongue-tied, feeling tired, waking up in the middle of the night. My girlfriend things I'm behaving 'strangely'. What's going on with me?
Oddly
Dear Oddly
Sounds like you are in crisis mode, and as you seem not to have experienced this before and are not a normally anxious person, I wonder what in your life has changed to make you so different right now.
Examine closely what, if anything, is different in your life. Diet? Drinking? Are you normally sporty but haven't been active lately? What's happening with your job?
If you work in the City, you may well be affected by the past year's developments, and be anxious about your bonus. And perhaps rightly so. When John Mack decides not to take his bonus, things must be serious.
Talk about things with your girlfriend. Apart from helping take some of the strangeness away, that can help focus you more in one direction - not a bad outcome from a difficult life event. And even rethink your commitments, but be cautious before doing anything rash.
As always, supporting your mind with your body can help you face things with increased strength. Brisk walks, yoga, or even simple, deep breathing can assist with beneficial active relaxation.
We all need to be reminded occasionally that we need support from others as well as simple self-help strategies. If you find you have little support at your disposal in this field, you may even want to talk through your fears with someone.
There is nothing 'sissy' about facing up to your difficulties and finding better ways for mastering them - because as history has shown, the next crisis in the City is never that far away.
