Whatever you think about hypnotherapy - and whatever your current dilemma - Tim Smale can help. Here are his clients most common issues, and chances are you'll be able to relate to at least one of them.
I've just been made redundant along with half of my bank, and I can’t bear the thought of sharing the news with my partner/friends/family.

Do it now. Its much better that they hear about the news from you than somebody else. Thinking about it and bottling it up will only make you feel worse, you’ll feel much better once you’ve told them.

OK, so I’ve told everybody, but I feel wretched. I can't get out of bed let alone bring myself to look for a job.

Focus on something, however trivial, that will get you up and out of bed. It could just be brushing your teeth or feeding the cat, but once you’re up you’ll do more things. Make yourself a cup of tea and set yourself lots of little, achievable tasks.

Right, now I’m out of bed. I’ve even managed to get dressed. I suspect I’m not the only person who will be meeting with recruiters today. How can I make myself their first pick when they’re shortlisting candidates for the one job that’s going?

Leave all your baggage outside the door. Come across as only positive about your ability. Never mind about redundancy - it happens to everyone.

Great, I've got the interview. I've researched and prepared as much as I can, but I know my mind is going to go blank as soon as I step into the room.

Hypnotise yourself. Remind yourself to be calm, relaxed and confident at all times and trust your instinct.

And exactly how would I hypnotise myself?

Remind yourself of a place where you felt at your very best, for example just after having passed an exam, a holiday, scoring a goal or having had great sex. Find a moment where you feel really good and think about that moment and remind yourself how good you felt then. Do as much as you can and add as much detail as possible to 'anchor' that memory - maybe create a word in your mind to trigger that thought.

Wow, I'm through to the second round. This one’s in front of the board. They want a 30 minute presentation followed by questioning, and I’ve never been comfortable with public speaking. Any suggestions?

As with the first interview, hypnotise yourself. Remind yourself of your own previous success. Tell yourself to be calm, relaxed and confident. Be yourself. Remember that they’re not there to catch you out, they want to be impressed and they’ll only be impressed if you behave naturally with nothing to hide.
